命の担い手

私たちが聖母マリアの無原罪の御宿リをお祝いするように、私はすべての母親にありがとうと言いたいと思います。子供を産むためにたいへんな苦痛を経なければならない母たち、生きるために汗と血を犠牲にする母たち、出産に向けて最善を尽くそうとする母たち、細心の注意を払いながら一人で子供を育てるシングルマザーたち、本当の母の心をもった女性たち、私はあなた方に敬意を表するとともに、命を分かち合ってくれたことに永遠に感謝します。
教会の母、母マリアはあなたたちと共におられます。マリアはイエスの母として、その命を私たちに注ぎ続けます。私たちの祈りを息子イエスのより近くに届けてくれます。私たちが神の子としていま感じていることは何でも、マリアだけがもっとも分かってくださいます。子供の口から言葉が出る前に、母親は心でそれが分かります。私はすべての母なるマリア、そして世界中の母親に対し母としての本能を分かち合うことができることを感謝したいと思います。母であることは偉大な使命です。人生が私たちに何をもたらし、どこに連れて行こうとも、私たちを導き私たちと旅するという使命です。
母たちよ、母とは何と偉大な使命でしょう！マリアのように、あなたたちは命の担い手です。マリアがいなければ、イエスは生まれなかったでしょう。マリア、あなたがいなければ人類の救いの歴史はなかったでしょう。人々は“なぜあなたは女たちの中でもっとも祝福されたのですか”と問います。なぜなら、あなたは父聖ヨワキムとともに、恵み深い母聖アンナの子宮の中にいる時から神に選ばれていたからです。それで神はあなたをイエスの汚れない母として選んだのです。私たちの神イエス・キリストの権威において選ばれたのです。
私たちがマリアを“母”と呼ぶ理由はまだ他にもあります。罪から解放されたマリアの汚れない心は、私たちがどのようにしてすべての命を神に捧げたらよいか完璧な手本を示してくれます。マリアは罪から解放されていたので汚れがなかっただけでなく、本来的にご自分の意思を神にすべて委ねていたから汚れがなかったのです。イエス・キリストの誕生が近づくなかで、私たちがそのことから学ぶことができますように。

Bearers of Life
As we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of our mother Mary, I would like to say thank you to all mothers. Those of you who had to undergo in great pain just to give birth to your children, those of you who sacrificed sweat and blood so that we may live, those of you who tried your very best though the time to give birth has not yet unfolded, those of you single-mothers who reared your children individually at the utmost of your care, those of you, women out there who possess truly a motherly heart, I salute you, and forever thankful for sharing your lives to us.
Together with you is Mama Mary, our mother of the church. She, as the mother of Jesus, continues to unfold her life unto us. She brings our prayers closer to her son, Jesus. Whatever we feel right now as children of God, only can She understand the most. Even though before a word comes out from the mouth of a child, a mother has already knew it by heart. She, together with all the mothers in the world, I would like to thank you for sharing your motherly instinct. This is your great vocation as mothers. It is a vocation to guide and journey with us what ever and where ever life may bring us.
How great the vocation of you, mothers! Like Mary, you are the bearers of life. For without Mary, Jesus would not have been born. For without you, Mary, the history of human salvation would not come to life. Why [you are blessed among all women?], many will ask. Because since you were in the womb of your gracious mother, St. Anne together with your father St. Joachim, you were already chosen by God. Thereupon, God chose you to be immaculate mother of your son Jesus. You were chosen in the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There are still other reasons why we called ‘Mama’ for Mama Mary. But truly as it is, her immaculate heart, which means free from sin, gives us the complete image on how to offer our life completely to God. She is immaculate not only because she is free from sin; she is immaculate primarily because she offers totally her will to God. May we learn from as we come closer to the birth of our Lord.
